4 electric shows like Running Point to watch on Netflix next

One of Netflix’s best comedies is back for a second season, with Running Point returning with 10 new episodes on Thursday, April 23. But as a half-hour comedy, it’s so easy to binge the show to see what Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) and her basketball team, the Los Angeles Waves, will get up to next. I watched the full season in one sitting, and if you did the same, you’re probably looking for something to watch now.

From hiring a new coach to navigating wedding planning with Lev (Max Greenfield), Isla had a lot to figure out this season of Running Point. Now, we’re crossing our fingers that the streamer renews the show for season 3. But until then, check out these four comedies on Netflix while we wait for any news.

  1. GLOW
  2. Brockmire
  3. Never Have I Ever
  4. Nobody Wants This

GLOW

If you love Running Point for the combination of sports and a great female lead, then your next watch is obvious: GLOW. The three-season dramedy ran from 2017 to 2019, following a group of women in the 1980s who come together as the “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling” (a.k.a. GLOW), based on the real-life organization. With a fantastic cast including Alison Brie, Betty Giplin, Britney Young, and Sydelle Noel, and fun storylines, GLOW is hilarious, inspirational, and memorable.

Brockmire

Another one for sports fans, Brockmire follows a baseball broadcaster named Jim Brockmire (Hank Azaria) who, after hitting rock bottom, is forced to reinvent himself outside of the big leagues. The sitcom ran for four seasons between 2017 and 2020 on IFC, and is now available to stream on Netflix. Azaria is a standout as the show’s lead, as is his co-star Amanda Peet. The series is laugh-out-loud funny, while also including great character development and interesting storylines.

Never Have I Ever

Switching gears a little bit, Never Have I Ever does not revolve around sports, but like Running Point, it was co-created by Mindy Kaling, so the style of humor is very similar. If you can’t get enough of the quick, sharp jokes or pop culture references in Running Point, then Never Have I Ever is up your alley. The four-season Netflix Original ran from 2020 to 2023, following a high schooler named Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), who, in the first season, is on a quest to become popular.

The coming-of-age comedy is undeniably funny, but is also features compelling storylines of grief, family dynamics, and finding your identity.

Nobody Wants This

Last but not least, Nobody Wants This isn’t a sports comedy, but it’s tied with Running Point for the best current Netflix comedy series, so that means it should be on your list if you haven’t watched it already. The two-season show debuted in 2024, following a podcaster named Joanne (Kristen Bell) who falls for a rabbi named Noah (Adam Brody) despite their very clear differences.

As they navigate their lives together, they have to make tough decisions if they want to give their future a real shot.

The cast of Nobody Wants This is particularly strong, featuring hilarious actors who bring humor to every scene. This is another one you can binge in a weekend—trust me, I’ve done it. The show has been renewed for a third season, which is now filming and will release sometime this year.
