The ping-pong drama “Marty Supreme” makes its streaming debut on HBO Max Friday. Timothée Chalamet stars in the film as ambitious table tennis pro Marty Mauser, who seeks championship glory and will stop at nothing to achieve his goal. While “Marty Supreme” didn’t quite live up to its Oscars aspirations, earning nine nominations (including a best picture nod) but no wins at the 2026 Academy Awards, it did clean up at the box office, becoming A24’s highest-grossing worldwide release of all time. Directed by BU alum Josh Safdie, the flick also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, and Fran Drescher. Available on HBO Max

No stranger to action thrillers, Oscar winner Charlize Theron squares off with Golden Globe winner Taron Egerton in the new film “Apex,” debuting Friday on Netflix. Directed by Baltasar Kormákur, the flick stars Theron as Sasha, a “grieving woman,” who’s being stalked out on the Australian outback by Egerton’s Ben, a psycho killer who seems to take pleasure in hunting humans, according to the logline. But can Theron’s Sasha turn the hunter into the hunted? Available on Netflix

‘Stranger Things: Tales from ’85’

For fans who bought into “Conformity Gate” — the online conspiracy that there was a secret ninth episode waiting in the wings following the “Stranger Things” series finale — “Tales from ’85″ is probably cold comfort. Now streaming on Netflix, the new spinoff is an animated take on the “Stranger Things” world set between the main show’s second and third seasons. The Hawkins heroes are back to face new monsters from the Upside Down, but they’re all voiced by different actors than their live-action counterparts. Available on Netflix

Co-created by Cambridge’s own Mindy Kaling, the sports comedy “Running Point” returned to Netflix this week for its second season. The series stars Kate Hudson as Isla, the president of the fictional Los Angeles Waves basketball team, who has a new set of on- and off-the-court headaches to handle. Justin Theroux is back as her scheming brother Cam, while Ray Romano, Ken Marino, and more join the fun for the latest season, with all 10 new episodes now available to stream. Available on Netflix

A still from “No Other Choice,” directed by Park Chan-wook.NEON

A notable awards season snub, the Korean black comedy “No Other Choice” streams on Hulu beginning Friday. From “Oldboy” director Park Chan-wook, the satire stars Lee Byung-hun (“Squid Game”) as a man laid off from a paper company after nearly three decades of service, who looks to kill off his competition for a potential new job. Globe film critic Odie Henderson gave “No Other Choice” three stars in his review, writing that the screenplay “is full of pitch black comedy and unsubtle jabs at toxic masculinity.” Available on Hulu
