They say that all good things must come to an end, but that old adage always comes around as a surprise when it’s in relation to our favorite shows. All good things must come to an end, sure, but why does that have to include the Netflix shows that we love? Unfortunately, this year will bring the official series finale of Heartstopper, and Netflix has announced the wrap-up movie’s release date.
Rather than ordering a fourth and final season of the Children’s and Family Emmy Award-winning teen drama series, Netflix opted to instead order Heartstopper Forever, a wrap-up film that brings back the cast to see off their characters once and for all. Well, it’s going to be quite the bittersweet summer as we say goodbye to Nick, Charlie, and all of their friends for the last time.
Heartstopper Forever release date set for summer 2026
Mark your calendars and set your reminders! Heartstopper Forever premieres on Friday, July 17, 2026 on Netflix. The series-ending movie releases globally on Netflix, and like all of the streamer’s scripted series and movies, the film will drop at midnight PT and 3 a.m. ET, which will be 8 a.m. BST in the UK. We have a few months to stock up on tissues for the emotional send-off.
In addition to announcing the Heartstopper Forever release date, Netflix also shared the first photo from the set of the movie. While it’s a behind-the-scenes snap of the cast, it’s also a perfect look at the characters back in action. The photo includes Kit Connor, Joe Locke, William Gao, Yasmin Finney, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Tobie Donovan, Rhea Norwood, and Leila Khan.
The release of Heartstopper Forever predictably comes shortly after the release of creator Alice Oseman’s final volume of the Heartstopper graphic novel series. Heartstopper Volume 6 will be released in the UK on July 2, while the release in North America follows on July 7. If you’re thinking that’s not enough time to read the book before the movie comes out, but these are quick reads. There’s no doubt that devote fans who have been waiting will breeze through in one sitting.
While the specifics of the Volume 6 and Heartstopper Forever plots have been kept close to the vest for obvious reasons, we do know that both the final book and the series finale will follow Nick and Charlie and their friends as they continue to grapple with the reality of embarking on the next chapter of their lives and what that means for their friendships and relationships.
Netflix shared a bit about what to expect from the movie:
“Nick and Charlie are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?”
Prior to the release date announcement, it was confirmed that Olivia Colman has been recast with Anna Maxwell Martin in the role as Nick’s mother Sarah Nelson. The recasting came down to availability, as the Oscar winner continues to be busy and in demand. But there are surely even more fun surprises in store to make the wrap-up movie a special even to remember!
