Professional golfer James Heath was mid-sentence during a Soudal Open interview when blood began dripping from above his eye. The interviewer noticed it before Heath did.
The DP World Tour shared the clip on social media Tuesday with the caption, “Where did that come from?!” The incident took place before the Soudal Open at Rinkven International Golf Club in Antwerp, Belgium.
“Man, I got to tell you, just got a big drop of blood about to go in your eye,” the interviewer said. Heath’s response was immediate. “Yeah, what’s that all about, man?”
“I nicked myself with a club on the range just beforehand,” Heath responded. “It’s actually me and my caddie just had a little bust-up.”
The video ended without any further explanation. No further details were provided. Heath stood there with a cut on his forehead after nicking himself with a club on the practice range.
Before the interruption, Heath was answering a question about his preparation. “Just normal stuff, but still had to show up,” he said before the interview suddenly stopped because of the blood above his eye.
James Heath Heads Into a $2.75 Million Event This Week
The incident happened during the Soudal Open, a DP World Tour event with a prize pool of $2.75 million. The tournament is being played at Rinkven International Golf Club in Antwerp, Belgium.
The event returned in 2022, when Sam Horsfield from England won the title. Kristoffer Reitan is the current champion after winning the event at 13-under-par last year.
The tournament is part of the DP World Tour’s European Swing, with 3,500 Race to Dubai points and 1,000 Ryder Cup points up for grabs this week.
Heath arrived at the interview with blood still visible on his forehead after whatever happened on the practice range. He did not seem worried and never explained what happened with his caddie.
The DP World Tour posted the clip on social media on Tuesday
