Besides maybe the reveal that God of War was uprooting from its Greek mythology foundations and planting new seeds in the Norse mythology’s nine realms, the future of Santa Monica’s God of War franchise has arguably never been more thrilling than it is now. It is fascinating that the Norse games will be adapted as an Amazon Prime Video series starring Sons of Anarchy’s Ryan Hurst, for example, and it is anyone’s guess where Atreus/Loki may journey to in his pilgrimage, assuming that his expedition is chronicled in an Atreus-led God of War game.
Plus, recent God of War rumors and leaks claim that a brand-new mainline game will feature one character, in particular, whose name players were surprised to hear. No official announcement has been made regarding this hypothetical game, and yet fans have already shared their opinions on this character, who is quite close to Kratos and Atreus, and what they think of possibly playing as them in a new God of War entry.
If the rumors and leaks turn out to be legitimate, a new game’s protagonist could be God of War’s Faye, played by Deborah Ann Woll. And, according to Twitter/X user Rino, it appears as if Faye’s game could be announced in the following weeks, specifically as a “one more thing” stinger during a rumored State of Play airing sometime before Summer Game Fest on June 5, 2026.
Rumors compounding on one another like this risk toppling and collapsing if even one is debunked, and yet it would not be wholly surprising if PlayStation did have a State of Play scheduled for late May or early June to compete with the reveals that will be shared at Summer Game Fest and the Xbox Games Showcase. User Marathoniano is completely optimistic: “If this really is the ‘one more thing’ at the next State of Play, that would be a big surprise.”
This same user is also open to a Faye game, writing, “Faye spin-off would actually be fire. We barely know anything about her story, so this has a lot of potential.” That said, not everyone wants a Faye game. User Lewis Barrett is more interested in an Atreus spin-off or seeing Kratos’ story continue, for instance, while user warrior lady is adamantly against the idea of a Faye game: “Nobody asked for a game with her, what is Sony smoking.”
User dontcallmewave offers a refreshingly neutral opinion, explaining that they understand why some fans might be disappointed if there truly is a Faye God of War game in development: “On one hand, no one asked for a game centered around Faye. But on the other hand, no one asked for a game about Kratos as a struggling single dad, and that turned out to be awesome.” As this user states, only time will tell how a Faye game might take shape or how adored it would actually be.
Either way, it is astonishing to see the franchise taking wild swings in virtually every direction. Santa Monica’s Metroidvania God of War Sons of Sparta was a commendable foray into an unprecedented genre for the God of War series, as well, and a Faye game could assist in bridging the immense gulf laid between God of War 3 and the Norse God of War revival.
