Anna Cathcart breaks her silence on XO, Kitty season 4 renewal status

It’s been over a month since XO, Kitty season 3 was released on Netflix, and it seems the stars of the cast are just as in the dark about the show’s future as the fans are.

“To be honest, it is such a big question mark right now,” Anna Cathcart told Us Weekly when asked about a potential fourth season. “We’re not sure if we’re going to get a season 4 or not. But I think that either way, we’re really proud of season 3, and it was so fun to get to be back with everybody and shoot again. It did have a different feeling [than] season 2 and season 1. Of course, we’d be so lucky and so happy to do a season 4, but we’re still waiting on the answer. I’m also just as anxiously waiting as you are, I promise.”

The news is certainly a bit concerning, as this is one of the longest stretches we’ve waited after a season of XO, Kitty has been released with no official word of a renewal order. Typically, Netflix tends to hand out renewals within the first month after a show has released its latest season, but there have been some exceptions to this rule.

Although the cast seems just as in the dark as fans, we’d honestly be shocked if Netflix canceled XO, Kitty after three seasons. This is because the show is entering final-season territory, and it seems highly unlikely Netflix would not give the writers the chance to craft a series finale for the beloved series.

Kitty’s time at the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS) is coming to an end with graduation fast approaching. With graduation day nearly upon us and Kitty and her friends preparing to take the next steps in their lives, it seems highly likely that Netflix will renew XO, Kitty for a fourth and final season.

In fact, Cathcart seems to be viewing Kitty’s graduation as being a final chapter for the character, one she’s hoping a fourth season would be able to bring closure to Kitty’s high school story.

“I do think there’s a lot of exciting chapters for Kitty coming up that would be so interesting to see,” Cathcart told Us. “She has graduation, and having that chapter be finalized would be so, so exciting. It just means so much — even for me personally — to put a bow on Kitty’s high school years.”

We saw Netflix take a similar approach with Never Have I Ever, ending the show with a fourth and final season timed to the main character’s graduation. This is an approach that we tend to see with many teen shows, with few shows continuing beyond the high school years to follow characters into their college years. While it can happen, it’s just very uncommon.

It would certainly be amazing to see XO, Kitty continue beyond a fourth season by exploring Kitty’s college life. If she follows through on her plan to attend New York University (NYU), the show could move the setting from Seoul to New York. Putting Kitty in New York City would also open the door for more appearances from Lana Condor as Lara Jean, which would certainly be fun.

Regardless of what the future might hold for Kitty, we just know that we want to see her journey get a proper ending of some kind. Hopefully, that will come in the form of a proper final season order from Netflix, and we won’t have to wait too much longer to know for certain that XO, Kitty will be coming back.
