Netflix orders Harlan Coben’s The Woods as next twist-filled limited series

Netflix is diving back into the world of twisty, emotionally charged thrillers with its latest order by bringing another bestselling novel from Harlan Coben to the screen. This time, the streaming giant is adapting Coben’s 2007 book The Woods as an eight-episode limited series. This continues its successful partnership with the prolific author whose stories have become a staple of Netflix’s global content strategy.

The newly announced series, currently in production in the United Kingdom, promises all the hallmarks fans have come to expect from a Coben adaptation. That’s buried secrets, emotional trauma, and a mystery that refuses to stay in the past. Filming is underway in Manchester and across the North West of England, signaling that the project is well into development, even as Netflix keeps an official release date under wraps for now.

For those who are faithful watchers of the various Harlan Coben shows on Netflix, you’d already know that The Woods has been adapted in the past. It was previously turned into a six-part Polish-language limited series for the streamer. This time, however, the story is being reimagined as an English-language production set in the UK.

At the center of The Woods is a haunting premise that mixes personal tragedy with a decades-old mystery. The story follows Paul “Cope” Copeland, a successful barrister and single father whose life was forever altered 20 years ago when his sister vanished from a summer camp deep in the woods. The case shattered his family and left lingering questions that were never fully answered.

Now, years later, a shocking discovery reopens old wounds. A body is found connected to the night of the disappearance, raising the possibility that Cope’s sister may not have died after all. What then follows is a relentless search for the truth, one that threatens to unravel everything Cope has rebuilt in his life.

Bringing this layered narrative to the screen is Danny Brocklehurst, who has become one of the key creative forces behind Netflix’s Coben universe. Brocklehurst previously adapted Fool Me Once, Run Away, and Stay Close, each of which found significant success with audiences drawn to their tightly woven plots and emotional depth. With The Woods, he serves as writer and executive producer.

Coben himself also remains deeply involved in the project, serving as creator and executive producer through his company, Final Twist Productions. Leading the cast is Tom Bateman as Paul Copeland, a man still grappling with guilt and unresolved grief decades after his sister’s disappearance. Opposite him is Michelle Keegan as Lucy Silverfield, a character defined by her own dark past and emotional scars.

The supporting cast further strengthens the production, featuring a mix of familiar faces from both British television and previous Coben adaptations. Among them are Mandeep Dhillon, Pearce Quigley, Rade Sherbedgia, James Buckley, Shannon Watson, Pamela Nomvete, Kerry Howard, Roger Barclay, Simon Lowe, Dean Fagan, Tom Allen, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Charlotte Beaumont, and Christopher Harper.

This latest project is part of a broader strategy that has seen Netflix adapt numerous Coben novels across multiple countries and languages. From the UK-set Fool Me Once to international productions, the author’s work has proven to be a reliable source of binge-worthy content. The Woods marks another step in that ongoing collaboration, further expanding a library that continues to resonate with global audiences.

For now, fans will have to wait for more details, including a confirmed release date and first-look footage. But with production already underway and a proven creative team at the helm, The Woods is shaping up to be another compelling addition to Netflix’s lineup of suspenseful dramas!
